A first-ever collaboration between the Monson Arts Council and the Old Post Road Orchestra has borne fruit in splendid fashion. A concert titled “Legends of Sound: A Showcase of American Music”, was held on Friday, June 24th at 7:30 pm in Memorial Hall, 198 Main St, Monson. This concert was under the direction of the final candidate of OPRO’s conductor search, Alexandria Black. The orchestra performed tried and true favorites of Gershwin and Duke Ellington, patriotic tributes, as well as some less widely known composers featuring the woodwind and brass sections.
The concert was a remarkable success. The organizers were aiming at an attendance of 100 for the event; 164 patrons showed up. The Monson Arts Council recouped its expenses, and felt well satisfied. There are already stirrings to continue the collaboration in the future.
The OPRO has been an institution in the valley for many years. This will be its final concert of the season. We hope this is the first of many collaborations between our organizations. The Monson Arts Council is delighted to once again be sponsoring musical events. It is also wonderful to see Memorial Hall put to this use after many years.
Thanks for your blog, nice to read. Do not stop.
